| Blackburn City Information: Blackburn is a large town in Lancashire, England, it is situated to the north of the West Pennine Moors and the name of the town first appears in the Domesday Book as Blachebourne, a royal manor during the days of Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror, and blackburn means 'dark-coloured burn' from Old English burna "stream", recorded as Blacheburne in 1128. There are numerous schools and colleges in Blackburn, and the most notable of these is the independent Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, locally referred to as "QEGS", and the Tauheedul Islam Girls' High School, became the first Muslim state school in the North West, and there is also Thwaites Empire Theatre and King George's Hall which is an arts and entertainment centre.
